AVOID CONGESTION & DELAYS AT THE BAY BRIDGE

Travel the Bay Bridge off-peak to avoid congestion and delays.

During the summer travel season, plan to cross the bridge:

  • Thursdays - prior to 2 p.m. and after 7 p.m.
  • Fridays - before noon and after 10 p.m.
  • Saturdays - before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
  • Sundays - before 11 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

  • Call 1-877-BAYSPAN (229-7726) anytime for current bridge traffic conditions.
  • Get E-ZPass or find a retailer selling E-ZPass "On the Go" at www.ezpassmd.com.
  • Note the Variable Message Signs along major routes approaching the US 50 corridor. Highway Advisory Radio messages on 1610 or 1630 AM also provide traffic updates.
  • Tune to local media before and during your trip.
Pace Your Space
SAFETY TIPS for traveling the Bay Bridge

  • "Pace your Space"-don’t follow other cars too closely!
  • Stay alert especially during "contraflow" (two-way traffic patterns) and lane closures.
  • Obey overhead lane signals and maintain posted speed limits.
    • A steady DOWNWARD GREEN ARROW means that you are permitted to drive in the lane.
    • A steady YELLOW X means move to a lane with a GREEN ARROW.
    • A steady RED X means the lane is closed; do not use it.
  • Report disabled vehicles by calling # 77 or accidents by calling 911.
  • Make sure your car is "road ready."
  • If your vehicle breaks down, turn on your vehicle’s flashers and wait for emergency assistance.
