The Maryland Transportation Authority and the Department of Business and Economic Development
(DBED) have initiated a plan for Taking the Heat Out of Summer Travel for motorists traveling
to and from the Eastern Shore.
"When you think of heading to the Eastern Shore in the summer, you think of sitting in back-ups
at the Bay Bridge. This is not only a transportation issue, it's a quality-of-life and commerce
issue," said Governor Ehrlich. "While we're continuing to look long-term at Bay crossing capacity,
we needed to find ways to ease this congestion now. The Authority and DBED have met the challenge
and created an incredible network of partnerships on the local level to further our investment in a
More Mobile Maryland."
